皆様こんにちは!
How is everyone doing?! I miss you guys so much!
Honestly
this week I don't really have a whole lot to report on... Fujisawa is
AMAZING. The members here are SO helpful and loving. This week a
couple of them came over to our apartment and looked around for all of
the things they felt we needed that we didn't have. The next day they
suddenly visited our apartment with all of the things that we needed!
Another woman from the ward came just to explain to us how to use the
brand new washing machine! Wha! :-) Another little girl (10 years
old) saw my stuffed animals and asked "Do you like animals?" I said "I
love animals! Do you?" She smiled really big and said "I have A LOT of
stuffed animals at home! I'll give you some!" SO cute. I laughed and
said no no no, but sure enough on Sunday she gave me this little tiny... stuffed animal thing. xD His name is George. :)
This week we did a lot of streeting and housing and trying to
figure out where we live. x) We met with the bishop and our ward
mission leader and such... Honestly not a lot happened. So far we
haven't found anyone to work with and we've had a total of 0 lessons...
All week. Ouch. I guess that's what to be expected though when you're
opening an area that has never had Sisters in it before. We'll just keep doing our best.
Now for the only really big thing worth mentioning this week (that
actually happened yesterday... and today. xD). So, yesterday was our
first Sunday
in Fujisawa ward. It was super stressful (as it always is) because
it's when we make our first impression. I spent most of the time
translating for the mom of a returning missionary who had served in
Fujisawa before and was visiting before going home. Well, after church
one of the SA's in the ward came up to us and asked if we were coming to
Lunch! Apparently in this ward, every Sunday
all the SA's get together and eat lunch and invite the missionaries.
We were like "Sure! Why not!" So we went upstairs to help them set up.
My stomach was grumbling and I was SO excited to eat. I couldn't even
wait... Then the food got there. I first noticed it was coming by the
smell. When I first smelled it I thought that maybe some poor soul
wasn't able to make it to the bathroom before vomiting. The door opened
and in comes this SUPER sweet old lady carrying a HUGE pot of what I was
pretty sure was in fact vomit. I gagged, but this old lady looked so
excited that so many people would be eating her food... I looked at my
companion and was said "I can't eat that." Our Ward Mission Leader
noticed my face and said "You don't have to eat it. Don't push
yourself." Then one of the Elders chastized us a little bit saying "It
may not smell good, but it always tastes good. Just eat it." I felt
bad because this little old lady was just beaming from ear to ear so we
decided to just suck it up and eat it... Weeeeeell... I got through
about... the rice. :P I ate as much as I could. I seriously did my
best. I kept apologizing, but everyone just kept patting my back saying
"You did your best. Good job." My companion though was able to eat
everything in front of her except the chicken. The elder that chastized
us ate 2 bowls! Honestly, the taste wasn't that bad, but I couldn't
push past the smell and the guy sitting next to me looked like he was
going to throw up which just added to that vomit image... It was pretty
dang bad. Anyway, so after that we came back to the apartment. I made
myself a sandwhich to get rid of the taste in my mouth when my companion
came in the kichen looking really green. She said "I'm not feeling
very good... I'm going to lay down for a little while." She ended up
falling asleep. When she woke up an hour later the first words out of
her mouth were, "That curry was evil." then she went into the bathroom
and didn't come out for another 30 minutes. My stomach wasn't too happy
with me either, and I didn't even eat very much. Well, short version,
that curry put us both out of commission for the rest of the day and was
still a bit of a problem this morning. When we talked to the Elders
last night we asked them how their day was and they said "It... could've
been better." All day today we've been getting phone calls and emails
from the SA's and the members asking "Are you okay? Are you okay? I'm
sorry your first Sunday was so awful!" xD
It was actually pretty hilarious. x) My Dad says that those kind
of experiences are "Journal Experiences". Awful when you're experiencing
them, but then afterward oh my gosh their hilarious. :P
You know a week was pretty boring though when the most exciting
thing I have to write about it "Explosive Curry". ;) I hope you all
had a much more exciting week thatn I did! You all are amazing! Please
keep praying for me and pray for my companion as well! I love you all
so much and can't wait to hear from you! Have a great week!
Love,
Christine
